Cannavine’s Local Roundup: Things to Do in Ukiah

We love our hometown! We can’t say enough Ukiah and its pride of place in Mendocino County. There’s the rich natural splendor of Northern California landmarks like Montgomery Woods State Reserve, the lush vineyards that produce stunning local wines, and the city’s history in early Californian history.

Of course, there’s another reason we love the region: It’s a bountiful producer of top-shelf cannabis. As a Mendocino cannabis dispensary, we’re proud to offer fresh and sustainably harvested flower, potent extracts, edibles, topicals and more, all easily accessible on our live menu.

With that in mind, we’ll share a few of our favorite things to do in Ukiah, our beautiful Northern Californian home!

This awe-inspiring park is a must-visit attraction in Ukiah. Inside its nearly 3,000 acres you’ll find a rich universe of solitude and groves of enormous coast redwoods. One, topping out at just under 368 feet, was until recently thought to be the tallest tree in the world. The two-mile trail is steep at first, but once you crest the initial rise you’ll be richly rewarded for your efforts.

A stunning shrine to local and native arts and history, this museum (and the former residence of local artist Grace Hudson and her husband John) showcases her work painting and otherwise documenting the lives and handicrafts of the Native Americans generally known as the Pomo. In addition, the Museum hosts engaging and forward-thinking exhibits such as “Tattooed and Tenacious: Inked Women in California’s History” and “Stitching California: Fiber Artists Interpret the State’s People, Life and Land.”

Especially in a region as sun-baked as Mendocino County, any excuse to jump into a cool and refreshing body of water isn’t to be taken lightly. Created by damming in 1958, the lake offers recreational opportunities including over several hundred campsites and 15 miles of hiking and biking trails. The facility includes five large day-use areas with covered picnic shelters and barbeques, and the water supports boating, swimming, and water skiing. You’ll probably spot some native wildlife, and dropping a hook in the water could net you large- and smallmouth bass, bluegill and any of three varieties of catfish.

Ukiah boasts any number of fantastic wineries to visit, but Nelson is a perennial favorite. Spanning some 2,000 acres, the winery boasts olive and pear orchards, a redwood grove and ancient oaks, and awe-inspiring views of the surrounding hillsides. Sample the several wine varietals on offer at any time in the tasting room, and stay for the evening musical events running during the summer.
