Cannabis categories at a California dispensary

Every licensed shelf in California is organised the same way, by format: flower and pre-rolls, vape cartridges, edibles, concentrates, tinctures and topicals, and the accessories used with them. Each category below has its own page on how that format is sold, labeled and counted against the daily limit, and each opens the live menu at your store, which is the only place on this site that says what is in stock.

Two limits, one label

Two numbers run through every category. California allows an adult to buy up to 28.5 grams of non-concentrated cannabis a day, which covers flower and plain pre-rolls, and up to 8 grams of concentrate, which covers extracts, the oil in a cartridge, the extract in an edible or a tincture, and the concentrate in an infused pre-roll. The register applies both to the basket as a whole. Our purchase-limits guide works through a mixed order.

Every product in every category also carries the same label: the state’s universal symbol, the government warning, a batch number that ties it to a certificate of analysis from a licensed lab, and the lab’s potency figures. How to read one is a guide of its own, reading a California cannabis label.
